Back to the Moon

Here is a link to a clip from Space dot com that that demonstrates NASA's current plan to return to the moon by 2020. Actually I think if we really put our nation to it, we could do it in half that time and would be a much needed boost to our nation's morale. Please note that you will see an ad first.

Here is an older and shorter version of the same thing from You Tube.

I have stated before that I think we can and should do it before 2020.

What's the point of going back to the moon? I used to be a fan of NASA but now, considering the massive amounts of cash they piss away with neglect, hope they soon become abolished. When our roads, bridges, overpasses, freeways, air traffic control systems, waterways, levees are in disrepair, when we have no oil, no power, no water, no refinery capacity, NASA is the LAST DAMNED PLACE I want to spend ANY of my taxpayer dollars! NASA can be justified ONLY when this nation is FAT with cash.

I disagree with BZ, because I believe in the next few years space exploration is going to help solve many mysteries and possibly even help improve things here on earth. We have much to learn, both about outer space and our ocean depths. Neither do I believe our economy is as bad as we are being led to believe.

In addition, let's remember that many thought Columbus's journey was a waste of money too. He had to beg for the funds! I'm glad that he did.

Gayle and I are in total agreement (take a picture!)

Total waste of time and resources, not to mention it benefits us absolutely nothing. What sort of morale boost is it to know that the dollar is going down the tank faster than a lead turd and our government has the audacity to forcibly take money from us to whiz away on a ridiculous zero-sum game.

Funding for the entire space program should be taken entirely from voluntary contributions.

NASA can exist when you have a surplus of cash. NASA is a "nice to have," not a "need to have" particularly when your governments are spending money like water on every level and the infrastructure of our national civilization is crumbling in front of our very eyes with no one sufficiently intelligent to recognize the existence of this ticking time bomb.

We can do mysteries later. Let's get back to The Basics RIGHT NOW and that includes:

FOOD
WATER
ROADS
SAFETY (military, police, fire)
ENERGY

I'd LIKE to believe that NASA is a good organization and I'd LIKE to be free to spend billions more in space exploration. But when it is clear that we are going to spend BILLIONS and BILLIONS more on useless, emotive programs, when it is guaranteed that we'll be further taxed to within an inch of our lives, when with an Obama presidency we'll as much as guarantee another terror attack on our sovereign soil, when I watch my freeways crumble, my roads crumble, fires destroy my state because we'd rather spend cash on welfare fu*@heads and on art programs that assure another Piss Christ rather than on firefighters, apparatus, strike planes and helos that aren't WWII vintage, when I see our water resources dwindle and this precious commodity simply allowed to flow into the ocean, when I know we need refineries, we need electrical generation stations, we need coal, nuclear, gas-fired, when I see my schools look like prisons and our prisons look like schools, when I damned near have to speak Spanish when I want any service in my state -- well, I hate to portray it quite this brusquely, but NASA and its required billions of dollars necessary to even kinda, sorta approach the moon can go straight to Hell. Their corporate mindset, their greed, their corruption, their ancient thinking has already killed two entires sets of astronauts placed into an aged relic called the Space Shuttle.
