The Gift Of Eternity

In Egypt's sandy silence, all alone,
Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws
The only shadow that the Desart knows: --
"I am great OZYMANDIAS," saith the stone,
"The King of Kings; this mighty City shows
"The wonders of my hand." -- The City's gone, --
Nought but the Leg remaining to disclose
The site of this forgotten Babylon.

We wonder, -- and some Hunter may express
Wonder like ours, when thro' the wilderness
Where London stood, holding the Wolf in chace,
He meets some fragments huge, and stops to guess
What powerful but unrecorded race
Once dwelt in that annihilated place.

Horace Smith Ozymandias

Man and all of his works are temporary and, as far as the material universe goes, doomed.

Surely the people are grass; the grass withers, the flower fades, but the Word of our God stands forever. (Isaiah 40: 7-8)

But the Eternal has made His presence known.

And the Fact became flesh and settled amongst us and we observed His glory, glory belonging to One Unique of the Father, full of Grace and Truth. (John 1: 14 Personal Translation)

This life is temporary, humanity is temporary, earth is temporary, and the universe is temporary. Only that which exists outside of the space-time continuum is truly eternal.

But for one brief (33 year) instant the Eternal became part of the temporary so that the temporary could become eternal. God became man so that man could be reconciled to God.

When we celebrate Christmas we celebrate Eternity and the One Who brought it to us.

Merry Christmas.
