How is the Economy?

To hear the MSM talk, America is spinning down the drain economically and taking millions of people with it.

It may not be that way though.

A Rasmussen Poll shows that 55% of Americans believe they are better off than they were 4 years ago while 36% feel that they are worse off. This is odd however because only about one third of Americans actually believe that America's economy is in reasonably good shape. Could the constant negative memes put out by the media be causing a disconnect between what people see with their eyes and what they actually believe?

In my own life I am slightly worse off than I was a couple of years ago, however things have improved drastically in the last couple of months. If the workers at Delphi don't disrupt the business I will be in pretty good shape in a couple of months.

H/T World Net Daily.

Guess it depends on your definition of how good is good. Quality of life is better, but it seems to be part of human nature to crave more. With LIEberals, it's only focused on what affects them. They don't care about what happens to anyone else.

The economy is fine. In fact when it was moving this fast under president 42 it was called incredible by the media.

I think that media does shape perception of the economy. They will concentrate on small areas of problems, and not spend any time on areas where things are good.

I think the economy is doing better. I do run into a lot of people complaining about the price of gas. They don't look at the bigger picture.

Never believe the MSM - never! They lie like a rug in a hallway.

Look at the economic indicators, and the economy is doing OK, not great. But no where near the gloom & doom the MSM keeps spouting.

Tom, if you look at the "misery index", which is inflation+interest rates, you'll find that it's lower the last 2-3 years than at any time in recent history. That alone should put it at "great".

Stocks have rebounded to 5 year highs, unemployment is almost too low, inflation is in check, even with high oil prices, and growth has been at a sustainable 3-4% pace for over 3 years.

Even homesales, which they've been claiming for 3 years were going to die haven't. I guess folks figured out that even at 6.5% a mortgage is still 2% lower than the 20 year average.

Sir Politico - perhaps I'm a bit myopic, but I live in Michigan, so things are not that rosy here. But I do agree that the nationwide economy is doing very well.

By the way, thanks for the flash-back to the Carter years with the "misery index."

I too live in Michigan, and things are quite bad here, but I recognize that Michigan is an anomaly in anotherwise healthy economy.

I have been hearing conservatives talk about how well the economy is doing. It just isn't being touted by the MSM. When that is all you heard about when Clinton was president. The MSM constantly talked about how wonderful the economy was.

Good post. I appreciate you bringing this up. I have been meaning to post on this for awhile but my list is long of things I want to post on but haven't gotten to yet :-).
