An Oscar for a Bomb (Poor Movie)

Brokeback Mountain, a gay love story set in the west, was released on Dec 12, 2005. The critics seem to like it but no one is going to see it (which does not suprise or bother me in the least). Over the weekend, it did not even make the top 12 movies. I would call this movie a disaster.

Think again!

While Yahoo News was commenting on movies the critics liked we learn some suprising things.

Gay cowboy love story "Brokeback Mountain" won three of the top four awards from the New York Film Critics Circle on Monday, building momentum as the critics' favorite for Hollywood's top honors, the Oscars.

and furthermore

The awards presented by the New York Film Critics Circle are among a string of second-tier awards leading up to the March 5 Academy Awards. The slew of awards announced in December traditionally helps narrow the field for the Oscars.

Director Ang Lee's film "Brokeback Mountain" is shaping up as the critics' favorite, despite concerns that its depiction of a love affair between two men may have trouble winning over audiences in more conservative parts of the country.
The New York Film Critics Circle gave the film its awards for best film, best director and best actor, for
Heath Ledger.
"Brokeback Mountain" already won best film from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association on Saturday, and it earned eight nominations for the Critics Choice Awards on Sunday

It makes a lot of sense. Give an Oscar for a movie that nobody wants to see. Well, it may sell out in San Fancisco.

This just goes to show that if the critics are raving about it the public should be running from it!

I saw the previews on TV the other day. One guy was reaching around from in back of the other guy "hugging" him. It gave me the willies. I'm not going to go see this movie. I know this stuff happens, but I don't want to watch it happen.

Kind of like that scene in "All in the Family" when they were discussing movies.

Meathead: But Archie, people take their clothes off and make love, it's part of life

Archie: So's throwin up, but I ain't gonna pay no three bucks to see it.
