All I have to say

After last night's near-total disaster for the GOP and this country, our work is clearly cut out for us. Our country survived 4 years of Jimmy Carter, who was the worst president in recent memory so we can survive 2 years of these people provided the President keeps his head and his VETO pen handy.

We have our work cut out for us and must begin immediately to make sure that last night's fiasco is not repeated. We need new candidates and we need to examine and replace a number of incumbents. With hard work we can put this behind us in a couple of years. If they say we can't, we'll make their over-confidence work against them.

This country has survived 6 years of W., the worst president since Carter. Last night's victory should send a message to rabid neocons that the average American is fed up with the mess that this bunch has created. Unless W. works with the Democrats to straigten out the mess that these idiots have created, a Republican with be hard put to get elected dog catcher. Digging in his heels will be a big, big mistake. When will you guys stop treating Democrats as the enemy and start treating them like fellow Americans? Yes, they have different ideas (some of which we disagree with) but the general electorate is fed up with all of this hard line neocon rhetoric. Compromise and dialogue is what the rest of us want, not further divisiveness and name calling.

First off Tim, I carefully avoid name-calling so I don't know what you're talking about there.

Secondly, do you honestly expect us to just roll over and play dead? We lost an election as the Democrats have at times. Fortunes change and hopefully they will again, soon.

It is a good time for a rebuilding and purging process. I don't think it was really all that bad, based on the numbers, but it is a clear message to clean up the act. Carter definitely was the worst I've seen, that's for sure.

What I expect you guys to do is to accept the voice of the people and work for consensus and compromise to straighten out the mess that W. and co. have created, and to give up on the notion that we can turn Iraq into a western style democracy that will transform all of the nations in the Middle East. Face it, that ain't happenin' in our lifetime, wish as hard as you want. Also, I'd like to see about half of the troops in Iraq pull back into the Kurdish area to protect our gains there, and then send the other half to finish the jobs of catching Bin Laden and mopping up the Taliban, which is where W. went wrong in the first place.

Jimmy Carter, who was the worst president in recent memory,...

Carter has been accused of being 'weak'.

However, he cannot be accused of being the worst for the simple reason that 'weakness' or 'strength' in itself is no criterion for greatness.

Hitler and Stalin were both strong. I don't think anyone except crackpot extremists would make the case that they were good leaders.

So who best deserves the title of the worst president ?

Perhaps the one who has managed to do the most damage.
