They Have Nothing Better to Do
All the criticisms of the lightbulb are valid but that is no excuse to outlaw them. Does this idiot who wants this law realize that many poor people would need to extensively rewire their homes to make the changes and to do so within code? Maybe he's being lobbied by the electricians union or maybe he's just a busybody.

We don't need more bans. What is the term people use...nanny state? People should be able to choose what they buy and politicians need to take a flying leap.
How many of us have actually used those "new" bulbs?? I bought several and GUESS WHAT?!?!?! they didn't give as much light, they were near impossible to read by and my bill didn't change enough to bother...
I've got some of the new one's,and they work okay, but like skip said, not quite as bright as an Edison special.
Heh, and I thought the old kerosene
lamps were eco-unfriendly. :)
I have the new ones here as well, but you have to buy the higher wattage versions, I think there 23 watts, or the light sucks. As it is, the light is a different color, and it takes a while to get used to them. Banning light bulbs is just plain stupid. Like you said, they must be bored out there.
This country is slipping and sliding into socialism with California going first. Sigh......
I have to wonder if Levine has stock in these bulbs? I can't help it... I'm suspicious by nature.
I guess if we don't want to have to rewire, we need to go out and stock up on lightbulbs! This is just getting sillier and sillier, and more annoying day by day.
lp They will ban anything except what should be banned.
Skip and cp Like those low water volume toilets that have to be flushed twice.
bbi I dunno, they might prefer you use those.
It is stupid but when has that ever stopped a politician.
lmc Fortunately California does not rule the rest of the country.
Gayle He well could.
I use the new ones in all the rooms of my house whose fixtures require climbing around and removing multi-screw lenses to change bulbs (and in outside fixtures that get a lot of use) because they last "forever". I haven't had to change a single one of those curly-cue things in the year since I started using them. They're okay by me.
That said, it is not now and never has been within the purview of government to dictate what kind of products we buy for use in our own home. However, we are talking California, which is the most liberal subdivision on this continent. As we know, liberals believe in intrusive government of a kind that micromanages every detail, from the most significant to the most picayune, of everybody elses' lives. They are simply unable to mind their own business.
Next thing, they'll try to legislate laws dictating what brands of laundry detergent or toothpaste we are allowed to buy.
Long and short, they are a both a pestilence in our society and a supreme blight on our liberty.
