Let's See

I received word last week from the company that purchased my old plant that I should apply and wait for a call up. I hope it's not another empty promise. I guess only one or two ex-employees have not or will not apply for the new owners. No one has found a truly satisfactory job. Mine isn't bad except for the pay and the boss's paranoia. (What we make averages more than 25 cubic feet of space - - like we're going to walk out with one of those in our pockets.)

Watched FOX news while I ate dinner. Is there anything going on in the country besides murder? It seems like 2/3 of the stories were about someone killing someone else.

Outlawing spankings? Yes spankings can be misused and misapplied, but over the several thousand years of human existence, they have contributed to the positive discipline of many kids, and it seems that more kids suffer from insufficient discipline than too much. Ministers often give guidelines for proper application.

1) Never spank for a mistake or accident but only for willful disobedience and defiance of parental authority, after warnings have been ignored.

2) Never spank while you are angry or in any other negative mood. It is for discipline and correcting the child's behavior, not the relieving of your own stress. This condition is probably the hardest to meet and requires maturity on the part of the parent.

3) Never spank a child in public.

4) Never spank hard enough or long to enough to risk injuring the child.

5) Use only the flat of your hand, never an implement, especially on younger children.

6) Never spank a child under 3 years of age.

Those who consider appropriate spankings to be child-abuse are themselves part of the problem and they need to be removed from authority. I hear them speak on the News, Oprah etc, and they sound like they little more than whiney children themselves.

Where did you get this gibberish? Are these the six commandments of some liberal that has never parented a child? I have an implement that the kids know is for spanking. Having used it at least once on every one of them, all I have to do when they are being defiant is ask where my spanking tool is, go get it, and ask if they want to obey or get a spanking. They always choose the former.

Frankly, Shoprat, I wish I could use spanking more on my own kids. I do it, but then I get guilty feelings. My dad used a belt, so he violated the preachers' rules. But open-handed spanking should be available.

The problem: Child protective services. If your kid goes to school and tells his teachers his parents spanked him, they'll call CPS. It's a joke!

bob I guess we found an area we disagree. Oh well. Liberals say "NO spanking! Period."

I save spanking for total last resort. Usually for when they are foolish enough to hit or kick me. Otherwise time outs (grounding) or the dreaded "I'm very disappointed in you" speech does the trick. My daughter will cry after word three...

Spanking should be a last resort, however, I totally disagree on a couple of those:
In Public? your dang right, you ever been to the store and an unruly kid is not listening to their parent?
Mine did it a couple of times....but one day in stater bros, he got out of hand, wouldn't listen and I laid him across my knee Whap Whap, told him " grab the cart, you let go I'll pop you again" The folks in the store actually started clapping, and my neither one of my kids acted up again in public... Sometimes tough love is the best route.

Please note: The reason not to spank a child in public is because there is always some do-gooder ready to turn you into Protective Services.

Reasonable guidelines also give an edge in combating the spanking=abuse fanatics.

It scares me how socialistic so many in our country are getting. Outlawing spanking is just the beginning of what parents won't be allowed to do if the liberals have their way.

I agree w/not spanking in public just because as you point out, someone is sure to call DFS even though its not warranted.
