Two Michigan Stories.

First off. Our Economy
When Ronald Reagan first assumed the Presidency he gave a public address about the economy which I well remember. Impersonator Rich Little later did a variation on it in which he Mr Reagan took a pie (which represented the US economy) apart and shoved into various jars of water, boxes etc, smearing it all over the table and himself and afterwards said "and that is our economy" in which someone said "Mr. President, that's nothing but a mess" to which Little/Reagan replied "Exactly!"

That's Michigan's economy now and it is going to get a lot worse in the near and not-so-near future. Everyone's greed, and I mean everyone including the Executives, Stockholders, customers, workers, retirees, government and management, combined together to kill the goose that laid the golden egg. The only innocents are those who are uninvolved and are victims of the collateral results. Everyone wanted more money without producing more wealth within the industry and it finally reached a breaking point.

Michigan's unemployment rate will probably reach 20%. The seeds for this destruction were laid in the 1950s when everyone saw the Auto Industry as a source of unlimited wealth where everyone from the CEO to the Shareholder to the line worker to the janitor to the Tax man could find a bounty of cash. The limit has been reached and the bubble has burst. The management, the stockholders, the unions and the tax collectors must all share in this guilt because they all did it.

Central Michigan University
A former CMU women's basketball player is suing her former coach for revoking her scholarship. Why? The lawsuit says it was because she was straight. Now I don't know all the facts and this could be nonsense, but it could also be exactly what happened.

"She was not only kicked off the team, but her scholarship was taken away because the coach kept telling her that she wasn't her 'type,'" Victor explains. "And when Brooke would ask what was that, [Guevara] would say 'I don't want you to wear makeup, you have a boyfriend, I don't want you to have a boyfriend...you're too girly girl' -- that type of thing."

If that is indeed what was said then she definitely has a case against this woman. The gay community needs to understand something. They are pushing too hard and are getting very nasty and arrogant and there will be a backlash and they won't like it when it happens. Very soon even people who are somewhat friendly to them will say that "enough is enough".

"enough is enough"...funny, that's just what I thought watching CABLE POLITICAL TV tonight. Nothing but nasty Left v Right...meanwhile, the country's falling apart.

And, yes.."enough is enough" to the homosexual world, too. They're pushing too hard and it's not appreciated by anyone. You know that the gay marriage prop failed here in CA and some people who supported traditional marriage and who worked in the arts were FIRED for their viewpoint. FIRED for not agreeing.
I hope the CMU player sues if that's what was said to her and I hope it's headline news. Homosexuals need to know acting like a nasty predator isn't the way to gain friends or influence enemies.

Back when I was in college in 1970, I had a PE teacher like that -- a dyke, clearly, and a "dear friend" of Billie Jean King, about whom the PE instructor bragged all the time (King had not yet come out of the closet). That PE instructor made my life miserable because I wasn't gay.

I had no scholarship for her to revoke, but she did give me an undeserved low mark which negatively impacted my GPA. The damage was controllable, though. I still graduated summa cum laude. The PE instructor was at my graduation and glared at me when I received the honor.

There was no getting her fired. She not only had tenure. She also was one of only two PE instructors, so there was no graduating without taking at least one of her courses.

You've seen nothing yet on the unemployment rate. Wait till the auto plants take their vacation this summer. The ripple effect among the suppliers, the service industry, and the tourism industry is going to be bad.

Wasn't only the auto industry. America was the last economy standing after the war and the profits were so high that everyone was grabbing for all they could get.
Look what happened to the steel industry.

So we pissed it all away in a very short time.

That straight player may well have a case. Kind of ironic that the ability to sue for discrimination is the result of a lot of hard fights by minorities.

You have to expect that some of the myriad of hard feelings in this country might come the way of the majority. There is no reason we should be immune.

Z about said all I was going to say...
I do remember MI as a kid - the 'enviable' position of anyone who owned GM stock or worked for GM...not to mention the other two of the BIG THREE!!
What is GM stock worth today...a buck!?
To give it our due-our ed. system had already been taken by the re-writers...It took me until the 80's and listening to an historian named Foster-Mayflower Institute- before I did an 'about face' on 'liberal' thinking...and I had just come to liberal CA !!
Great post SR and the links as well!!

Shoprat, this makes me really glad to be living in Texas.

As for the discrimination by the homosexual coach, I don't doubt it for a minute and I believe you're right on in saying that there will be a backlash. As far as I'm concerned, the sooner the better!

Ah, to go back to the good old days when the faggots stayed in their closets. Call me homophobe if you must, but all should agree that life was simpler and better back then! I try my best to not hold prejudices against people for what they are, but I see sexual preference as a personal choice with which I vehemently disagree, and I do not consider it to be discriminatory to disdain that behavior.

Avg. Asshole: You are a bigot. Thank God we live in a new day when the public demands the likes of you and "Reverend" Phelps just sit down and shut the hell up!

IF that is true.

And to me, at this point, that is a very LARGE "if". . .

IF true, then the suit needs to be into the millions.
