Declaration Rethought.

We hold these relative truths to be absolute.

That all people are exactly the same (except for liberal entertainers, liberal teachers, liberal journalists, and liberal politicians who actually are better than others) and are guaranteed by the state certain absolute rights.

that amongst these are free medical care, free food, free housing, free education (properly applied), freedom from being offended (unless you are a straight, male, white or Christian in which case you don't matter), freedom from responsibility, and freedom from work.

that governments are instituted amongst people to make sure that all wealth is properly distributed and that progressive policy is enacted.

deriving their powers from the fact that they are more enlightened than the unwashed masses.

That when any government fails to properly redistribute wealth and/or advance progressive causes it is the right of the enlightened to destroy that government by any means possible.

It's always sad when people want more government to solve problems. It seems to me that an over sized, bloated government would serve its own will and not that of the people.

The only thing that is even worse is when the government is run by Republicans who can't be bothered to do thier jobs and contract it out to the private sector (read: their cronies who helped get them in so that they may feed at the giant teet in the sky called the federal govenment). I can't believe that we have mercenaries (Blackwater) and "private" contractors (KBR) feeding our troops in a warzone. When I was in the service, we had our own cooks, not some overpriced company that can't account for how much they overbilled Uncle Sugar and had to give the gov't a bunch of money back. Next, we'll do away with the police and just have private security. Why stop there? We could even do away with the courts! That way, if you have enough money, you can make your own law. Now that would be really wonderful. That is the Republican way!

Hey Tim ... that "Republican way" that you talk about ... where we have Blackwater and other contractors doing the "jobs that Americans won't? Call it anything that you want but remember that it was the scumsucking liberals that cut the size of the military down to where the only viable solution was to use contract services rather than military resources.

Oh, and here is Michigan we know all about pols giving contracts to their cronies .... unfortunately it's nothing like your blather at all ... it's Democrat pols that keep getting nailed for such corruption.

By the way ... Blackwater wasn't involved in attacking American citizens on American soil near Waco or at Ruby Ridge ... that would be federal government employees reporting to a Democrat.

I feel no need to try and defend elected Republicans that don't understand the meaning of Majority and ran their government by Democrat standards ... but would prefer that you try to include some rational in your rationale.

Great post, Shoprat, and Pete answered Tim better than I could. It was indeed the Democrats who cut our military down to the bone and therefor made it necessary to hire contractors to make up for the loss. Anyone should know that! I also am upset with Republicans who have let us down by caving in to the Democrats. They've betrayed every single person who voted them into office.

So, 7 years later you are still blaming the Democrats for the shape the military is in? Prior to 12-7-41 we had a paper army. We ramped up pretty quickly for that one, right? So well, in fact, that it was over long before this one will be. Of course we had allies then, which we are lacking now.

Blaming Clinton for the current shape of our military is ridiculous. As far as "doing jobs that Americans won't do" there is a reson that they won't do this: this war is only popular with a small percentage of the electorate. If this war is so important, Pete, send your kids to fight it. Reinstate the draft and see how fast we would pull out of there.

One thing that I do agree with you on, Janet Reno was the most incompetant AG that I have ever seen and I don't know why she was not sacked. BTW-Ruby Ridge happened under Bush 1 as did the beginning of the Waco standoff. Allthough the standoff was ended by a Democratic President, it was begun by a BATF under a Republican president.

As far as what passes for gov't in Michigan, let us not forget that the foot dragging of the Republican controlled Senate led to this preposterous deal that taxes skiing (but not golf) consulting (but not lawyers). This tax increase will cost me about $1.50 a day. I think I can afford it. Let's not forget that there are about 50,000 State of Michigan employees. When Grandholm became the Gov, there were 60,000. See, a lot of stuff bandied about by republican pundits sounds good until you dig deeper and get the whole story. No, I don't like taxes, but I like the services that they provide. The question is this: do we borrow and spend (Republican) or tax and spend (Democrats). You can cut taxes to zero and that is still not going to bring in jobs. We need to pattern our state to be more like MN and not MS. MN has a 3.5% unemployment rate. They also have twice the college grads that we have. Grandholm is not a great gov. that's for sure. But Dick DeVos looked like a fool in the debate "go to my website" was all that he could say. Actually, I voted for Engler all three times he ran. I'd even look at Mike Cox for gov. if he decides to run.

i disagree with him that republicans are the only ones who don't do their jobs and contract them out.....that's simply untrue and so generic of a statement that it is non-provable from any viewpoint, so, as is typical with those on the left, we just have to accept what they say cuz they surely wouldn't tell us something if it wasn't true....so therefore all us republicans don't work and contract our work out....?????

OK ... so there's 10,000 less government employees. Now give me a useful statistic ... like how many more worthless overpaid underperforming petty bureaucrats we could still get rid of with absolutely no change to my standard of living? (my vote would be for about 90% ... keeping the gendarmes and the fire fighters)

Since you blame the Republicans for everything, why should I NOT blame Clinton and his corruptocrats for the militaries problems? It's easy to cut the forces ... but it not quite so easy to build them back up again. The scumsucking Democrats don't want to support the current troop level ... how could any president build it back up.
Oh, I'm sure Presidemt Hillary (God forbid) would be happy to increase the size of the forces ... to keep Americans who disagree with her in line ... but I'm talking about intelligent presidents.
It may have completely escaped your notice ... but it takes 2 of the branches to pass laws. I can understand how you missed that, since your favorite branch keeps making up its own laws in direct violation of the constitution.

Michigan's problems will NOT be fixed by additional taxes ... $1.50 a day or $150 a day. What business is going to move hear when every other jurisdiction would be smarter to locate in?? Unless Jenny moves elsewhere, of course, and then that would become the worst state.

Pete, as usual, you totally miss the point and attack. Here I tell you that I'm looking at voting for Mitt Romney, and you go frothing at the mouth neocon on me. In your world view the Republicans never can go wrong. As a Canadian and a NON VOTER, I am sick of your lack of commitment in this country and this state. All you do is attack liberals, you want to blame Clinton for the military? Okay, why has Bush not fixed it in almost 7 years. I'll tell you why: He does not have a clue. He hires some evangelical Dick DeVos relative to create a mercenary army to do the bidding of the neo-cons that is not accountable to anyone but his band of neo-con cronies. Shakespeare called mercenaries "the dogs of war" and he was right. We are paying these guys $1000 a day to soldier, but we can't pay the VA to take take of the wrecked lives and dismembered people who volenteered to go there. It really disgusts me that you, not even a citizen of this country who is making a good living here and bitching about taxes but doesn't have the balls to take the plunge and BE an American can be so sanctomonious and critize things. Go home then! See Shoprat's following post. And as far as me saying this or that in earlier comments, now what? I have to site sources like I'm writing a term paper but you don't? You dig up this garbage on the net and totally disregard the "MSM" because it doesn't support your wack job world view and condemn me? Go to hell! Everything I've brought up I can point to newspaper articles and "Mainsteam" information portals. I'm not picking and choosing like you. You are not interested in the truth. You are of the "don't confuse me with the facts, my mind is made up" school.
