"The Truth is Out There!"
Person 1: Rush Limbaugh needs to be silenced.
Person 2: You're so right! All he does is make people paranoid about the government.
Person 1: Hey! The X-Files is on!
Person 2: Oh I love that show about creepy government people.
Today I caught a good part of a show about 9-11 "Truthers" on the History Channel and was almost astonished at what they were saying.
Rather than debunking them, which the experts did quite handily, I am more interested in why they have the conspiracy theories in the first place. It comes down to this: many, if not most, of them believe that America, Christianity, and Economic Freedom (aka Capitalism) are the three greatest evils on this planet and there is nothing worse . . . period! What happened on 9-11 was clearly evil so obviously the greatest evil on the planet had to be behind it. Since there is no other evil except for the trinity of evil previously named they logically had to be responsible. Hence they grasp for the tiny straws they can find to blame America so they don't have to put the blame where it really belongs. Those people from other countries are oppressed victims so they can't possibly be responsible.
The truth is indeed out there, but it's not going to make the 9-11 truthers happy.

Sad, but true. Good analysis.
Exactly right, Shoprat. There is unfortunately a certain type of person who sees a conspiracy behind everything.
Like Chris Rock once said: "What ever happened to CRAZY?"
yep, The capitalist/Christian western world that has been feeding those muslims too friggin lazy to feed themselves is evil incarnate! that's why 82% of muslims hate America.
(according to some poll I read yesterday I can't remember the source for)
note that 60% of all economic aid in the world goes to muslims, you want to take a wild guess at where most of that aid comes from? the question is, why do we bother? if feeding them makes them our enemy, I can think of a real cheap, cost effective way to fight a war, can't you? ah, but, the crux of the problem is that such actions tend to be hardest on children as the Jihadi's would steal the food right out of children's mouths and we know it. humm...
I didn't watch the special although now I wish I would have just to see their twisted thinking.
Good post.
Sad, but true. Mark was going somewhere and the biggest problem is that if we decided to hold back our resources, we'd be behaving in an UnChristian manner.
I'll never quite understand why those so afraid of their own country, who believe their own country could at one blow kill thousands of their own countrymen on their own soil in one fell swoop, could countenance STAYING ONE MORE MOMENT in that particular country.
