Reality Idea
You have two teams of 12 people each (reasonable gender and racial mix).
Team A 3 liberal educators, 3 liberal pundits, 3 union officers, 3 liberal entertainers.
Team B 12 similar conservatives.
Put each on a similar island with similar resources including plentiful water, arable land, wood and rock. Allow each person a personal knife, first aid kit, 3 changes of clothing, boots, a rain slick, one blanket, a few lighters, plus matches in waterproof container, an old army-style mess kit, 50 feet of rope, 300 feet of twine, notebook, several pens or pencils and a canteen. Give each team 4 hatchets, 4 saws, 4 hammers and agreed upon amount of nails as well as 3 guns and agreed upon ammo. No cell phones allowed but one computer for each team with power and protection from elements provided, along with a digital camera and video recorder. There will be a doctor nearby for real medical emergencies in either team.
They are allowed to keep and use anything they create.
No team will ever be forced to eject a team member but each team always has the option of ejection of one who is holding them back (limited to one person per week). They also have enough food for the first 60 days then they're on their own.
The objective is to live on that island a year. The winning team is the one who achieves the highest standard of living including quality of shelter, food supply and creature comforts. What we would learn is which group has a philosophy that is practical and which group consists of "get it done" type people.
I think I already know how it would work out.

Shoprat this is the only reality show I might actually watch. I have a personal vow not to watch them.
The liberal team would need time to be sure everybody is being treated equally. Once they settled the equality issue, they would have to find someone to do the work for them so they can benefit from their labor.
I believe I would agree w/ you as to which would succeed..
C-Cs
After equalizing everybody, the liberals would find that for the good of the group the conservatives must go...and they would see to it one way or the other.
At the end of the year the conservatives would have won, but not by all that much. You see, after a while the libs would notice that there was no food, no shelter, and no pleasantries of any type. My guess is that they would soon become conservatives themselves---out of neccessity. Of course that would wear off as soon as they got back home.
I would watch it just to see the Libs crash and burn. Perhaps the network would run it daily. It would be just the pick-me-up I need.
The Left side would drive their own civilization into the ground, would do little work, would have little accomplished each day, but would have unity about what little work to do.
This is, actually, a very interesting post, the likes of which I WOULD enjoy seeing turned into an actual reality show.

NO DOUBT ABOUT IT, shoprat!
I'd like to see this, too!
I think Average American nailed it. A conservative is just a liberal who has grown up and has a sense of reality. As soon as they were back stateside and shielded by their penumbra of creature comforts, they would most likely revert.
Youur the best
