Europe is Finally Getting the Idea

Europe has sent the message that they do not want a terrorist organization in control of the Palestinian government, though I do have to admit that I am curious as to why they did not feel this way about Arafat.

They are threatening to take away their a good chunk if not all of their aid if Hamas takes control and does not renounce violence.

Solana said a Palestinian government that includes a party that fails to renounce violence and recognize Israel's right to exist could not continue to receive EU funding. The Palestinians receive about $1 billion a year in international aid — about half the Palestinian Authority's budget — and EU assistance is slated to reach $312 million in 2006.

I have two questions.

1. What took them so long?

2. Are they serious about it?
