Kiddie Costumes

Last year I noted on this blog a bizarre costume that was being worn by a young teen-ager in this area and in the comments gave the story behind it, but there is new problem today.

Sexy costumes.

They have always existed for adults and older teens but for kids?

CNN and Fox News both feel that this is inappropriate and I have to agree. There is enough pedophilia in the world that we don't need to encourage it.

The above outfit is - - maybe - - ok for a teen-ager or young adult woman but for a pre-adolescent girl it is totally uncalled for, and this is one of the tamer ones. I'm not even sure what the costume is supposed to represent other than total decadence. I have an uneasy feeling about even posting this picture because it's somewhat offensive to me but will do so. Where are this little girl's parents? Probably at the bank.

Note: after considering a bit more I deleted the picture as it can be misconstrued but it can be seen here.

Whatever happened to fairy tale characters, ugly old witches, and ghosts?

I must be old-fashioned.

Childhood is disappearing.

That's just freakin scary. If I ever have kids, it'll end up being painfully obvious their parents are squares - lmao!

Childhood is indeed disappearing, and it's a topic that deserves way more attention than it's getting.

No, you're not old-fashioned, Shoprat. What you are is smart! Some parents simply don't have a clue.

For instance, I was shocked last Sunday in church by a 14 year-old girl that I've known since she was 5. Her parents are extremely conservative, but let this girl show up in Church in a leather mini skirt that barely covered her butt, and three inch high leather boots with buckles and chains. She looked like a hooker and that was in church! The public school she goes to has a very strict dress code and would never let her dress that way in school, and I can't for the life of me figure out why her parents are condoning this. After all, they're the one's who buy her clothing. This is a mystery to me.

Costumes or clothing like that is not appropriate for any female of any age. Period. The rule for our house (as well as the girls that might find themselves dating our sons) is the same as I pushed to get adopted for the Bible College: if you can see any amount of midriff when you raise your hands over your head, the shirt is too short. If any bit of undergarment shows when you bend over horizontally or to touch your toes, the neckline is too low or the skirt is too short.

Whatever happened to modesty and the self-respect that accompanied it?

a&c Your standards are excellent for some situations, including an environment meant for Christians but I can't see criticizing your women (not girls but young women) for dressing like that in certain environments. Remember that girls show more in Church today than hookers did in taverns a century ago (as Gayle states.)
