Everyone Should Wear A Red Shirt. (UPDATED!)

It seems some gangs don't like it when other people wear red shirts because red shirts are their "colors".

Staples employees wear red polo shirts when they are working which is the store uniform. The results: One gets beaten up for wearing gang colors.

Staples has changed their shirt colors in other neighborhoods for that reason, but the whole thing is ridiculous. No one owns a color. Are they going after the Detroit Redwings next? Their shirts are red.

But here is another question, not approved for press conferences that needs to be asked. If one has so little regard for the rights of others as to attack a person where a monochrome shirt, what can one do with them or expect from them? If you outlaw guns will this people honor that law? You can't be tolerant of these people. You need to let them know that they are not in charge, and keep driving the lesson home until they get it.

I think I'll wear a red shirt tomorrow.

Update: It seems there is a bit more of this going on in that area. As I read this article I don't know what is more aggravating, the deed itself or the capitulation and denial of the authorities. It is beyond absurd when you have to watch the color of clothing you wear to avoid a beating. What madam mayor needs to do is call a "red shirt day" and instruct everyone in town to wear a red shirt, and the next day will be a "blue shirt day" just to annoy the gangs.

I am reminded of an old movie called Dragonslayer starring Peter McNicol in which a cowardly king made a deal with a dragon to provide it with two virgins a year in return for peace, and the hero shouts out, "You don't make agreements with monsters! You destroy them." The king was unmoved until his own daughter was in danger, then the dragon had to go.

It doesn't matter who the bully is. If it a street gang, Islamic terrorists or Jihadists, local bullies, "politically correct" enforcers, or even a dragon (if they existed) it is all the same. A bully of any sort must never be tolerated. They must be put in their place.

Is This Man Exempt?

It is fairly common knowledge that Sharia law requires that adulterers be executed, usually by stoning, but what if the adulterer is a leader in the struggle against Israel and the infidels?

There is a time and place for everything, supposedly, but definitely chose the wrong time and place to get a little on the side.

Khaled Shawish, an officer in Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas' Force 17 presidential guards, was captured by undercover Israeli police forces following scores of shooting attacks he is suspected of carrying out. Shawish, who doubles as the Ramallah chief of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades terror group, previously boasted of involvement in a West Bank shooting attack in December 2000 that killed Israeli ultranationalist leader Benjamin Kahane and Kahane's wife, Talya.

What was he doing when he was caught by the Israelis?

According to Israeli security officials and Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades sources in Ramallah, Shawish was arrested after the Israeli police stormed his jeep, which was parked in a lot outside the Muqata, about 200 feet from Arafat's grave. The sources said at the time of his arrest, Shawish was having intercourse in the back seat of his jeep with a Palestinian woman, whose identity is being withheld by WND. The woman was not his wife.

Now we see how serious these people are about stoning adulterers. Something tells me that this guy is somehow exempt. Maybe the poor woman will have to suffer the penalty for both of them. That could be why Israel has not released her name too.

How Would You Wash It?

Sony has created a TV screen so thin it could supposedly be worn on a T-Shirt. I can think of more practical uses than that as such a shirt could never be washed or dry-cleaned.

Is the screenless image far behind?

France Gets It

It wasn't that long ago that we mocked the French as cowards committing cultural and ethnic suicide, and at the time it appeared that was the way France was determined to go. The last few weeks have been a series of pleasant surprises as the French people appear to have faced reality.

First the elected Sarkozy as their new president.

And now Sarkozy is getting tough on immigration. He has said no to amnesty for illegal immigrants and is willing to pay immigrant families to go back to the countries they came from. (H/T Little Green Footballs and FrontPage Magazine) The amount is about $8000 American. Hopefully this will cause some of the problem people to go back to where they can live by their Sharia law.

Such a scheme would not work in America. We'd pay them to leave and they'd leave, briefly, come back and we'd have to pay them to leave again. France at least has the right idea this time around. Immigration is a good thing when it improves the lives of the immigrants and the well being of their new country. When one or the other fails to profit from the immigration then it's a bad thing.

We are not an ethnically monolithic country which makes it all the more important that we have some degree of cultural and philosophical unity. There was a time when Americans feared the Irish, Polish, and Italian Catholics yet these people have integrated into this country and have made many positive contributions to the country as a whole. They fit in because they wanted to fit in.

The same could be said of the Chinese and Japanese who settled on the west coast in the last century. Once they integrated they became a positive addition to the country.

It all goes to personal freedom balanced by personal responsibility. A philosophy of any sort that does not embrace this is what is contrary to America's growth and survival.

The First Thing They Say.

Al Qaida has released another video showing a poorly done graphic of an attack on the US Capitol building. Now, whether or not they actually have a plan or capacity to do this, it needs to be taken seriously and kudos to ABC news for releasing this.

What is just as disturbing though is some of the comments that are showing up.

Another question for ABCNEWS. How do you know terrorists created this video?? How do you know some (western) intelligence agency didn't create this video as a form of disinformation? Why did the terrorists superimpose ENGLISH headlines in their video? The English writing indicates to me that some western group developed this video to spread disinformation towards Enligsh speaking viewers.

Is this really terrorist tapes or yet another made up form of propaganda put out by the Bush administration in order to use fear tactics and thus, get their war.

There are those who simply refuse to see. I don't know what to do about those who think America is a greater threat than the Jihadists are. We are a threat to those who want to rule the world or enslave others. We are not a threat to nations who wish to live in peace with themselves and their neighbors.

Vandalism

I live less than a block from a seasonal ice cream shop that is owned by a couple who are about my age and have put a lot of time, money and effort into it.

Service isn't the best because of poor planning (They have set up to handle one customer at a time and the next doesn't start until the current is finished.), but ice cream is great and the price is right too. Trouble is you wait in line too long so you need to hit them when no one else is there (good luck). Still they are good, hard working, salt-of-the-earth people.

Saturday night, after they closed, some (presumably) local (presumably) kids threw rocks through all their windows just for kicks. Well their "fun" caused this couple to lose two days of business, to have to replace all their windows, and they also had to replace every bit of food because of the danger of glass particles contaminating the food. Yes insurance would cover it, but that's beside the point.

I hope those kids really enjoyed breaking those windows because it brought joy to no one else.

Secret Plan to Eliminate Funding for Abstinence Programs Advances in Washington, D.C.
ALERT: There is a push by some in Washington, D.C., to quietly eliminate federally funded abstinence only education programs – something that spurns all commonsense and is exactly the kind of misguided, out of touch approach that many of us find insulting. It is bad enough that in 2002 the federal government spent $12 promoting contraception-based sex education for every $1 spent on abstinence-only programs. Now, the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco, CA) is backing a plan to completely eliminate funding for these programs.

This is absolutely the wrong message for the federal government to be sending to parents and teenagers and exactly the opposite kind of help we should be providing parents.

FACTS: Originally created under the 1996 welfare reform act, “abstinence education” includes programs that have an exclusive purpose of teaching the social, psychological, and health gains to be realized by abstaining from sexual activity, and teach that:

• Abstinence from sexual activity outside marriage is the expected standard for all school age children;
• Abstinence from sexual activity is the only certain way to avoid out-of-wedlock pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, and other associated health problems; and
• Giving young people the know-how to reject sexual advances and how alcohol and drug use increases vulnerability to sexual advances.

PUBLIC SUPPORT: With those parameters it is no wonder a recent Zogby International poll found that parents overwhelmingly support and prefer abstinence education programs. The Zogby telephone survey, which contacted 1002 parents with kids between the ages of 10 and 16, had a margin of error of +/- 3.2 percentage points. The results were:

• Once parents understood what abstinence education teaches, six out of 10 parents preferred their child receive abstinence education to comprehensive sex education.
• 78 percent of parents think sex education classes in public schools should place greater emphasis on abstinence than contraceptive use.
• Almost 60 percent said abstinence education should be funded at higher levels.

I am grateful that I have a relatively honest, and relatively conservative representative in Congress. Camp is one of the very best. (He has faults, but there are no perfect saints in Congress.)

Why in the world would anyone, except a pedophile, want children to be sexually active? We need to be doing more to convince young people that they have a choice and don't need to listen to the demands of their bodies. Kids, and too many adults, don't realize how much social and personal damage is done by such behavior. (Or they know but will not allow themselves to believe it.)

Could you imagine if we taught drug education the same way we taught sex ed?

Drugs are dangerous but we know most of you are going to try them. In order to assure you survive your experiments, we are going to show you the safest way to mainline heroin.

Or Driver Ed?

We know you kids are going to speed, and that's dangerous, so we need to show you how to maintain control of your vehicle at 90+ miles per hour. It could save your life while you are disregarding the law.

Kids, whether they admit it or not, look to adults for guidance. What kind of guidance is this when we tell them promiscuous sex is all right? It could be argued that abstinences education isn't working, but as I see the number of unwed mothers who are still in school, it's pretty obvious that contraceptive training isn't working either.

I personally have no problem with kids learning about sex in school, but it MUST be taught in a moral framework. Sadly the enemies of the American Family control far too many school systems. (Not all, but far too many).

And they say Christians are sexist.

Three Views of Freedom

For your consideration:

The Great Swamp of Life, hundreds of miles across going each way. It is deep and deadly full of quicksand and deadly critters. There are thousands of miles of safe roads which criss-cross the swamp and lead to most places that are worth going to and there are also a couple of railroads but a lot of it is just guck.

Some brave souls think that the only proper way to travel is to go cross-country through the quicksand and other deadly stuff. These people can go as they wish but the terrain makes it very difficult to get anywhere and many never come back. Everyone has to do it from time to time, but a handful of souls seem to think it is the only true way to get anywhere.

Others like the railroads because you can't go wrong on them, and they go is where they must go. They have no choice. The railroads only lead to a couple of places.

Others pretty much stick to the roads because you can get anywhere you have to go and do so with reasonable safety and speed, and if you really need to, you can cut cross-country but that is not a preferred option as people often get lost in the swamp and never return.

Life is like that swamp and there are three different ways to look at freedom.

The anarchistic view of freedom is that there should be no laws or regulations but people should do what they want and consequences be damned. These are the people who reject any roads. Their path leads to drug addiction, incurable STDs, ignorance and poverty. Many who follow this way of freedom, like those who heedlessly wander into the swamp, never find their way back to the way of life.

The deterministic view of freedom really doesn't believe in freedom, but believes we are set on a path by some combination of nature and nurture and we are unable to deviate from it. Like those who prefer only the train tracks you can go only where you are lead. Their idea of freedom is being able to do what you are programmed to do. People must be free to follow any sexual inclination they have because they have no choice but to do it. If a man kills another it is not his fault because he only did as he was programmed to do, and the problem lies with the system that programmed him. This is view of much of the left. They view freedom as a single train track that goes where it goes and freedom is being allowed to travel on it as you are naturally inclined to do. Free Will does not truly exist to these people so there is no such thing as good and evil on a personal level, but only at a societal level where people are programmed to behave a certain way.

The third view of freedom believes that choices can and should be made and that one should, in the vast majority of cases, stick to the law. These are those who follow the roads that can take you anywhere you want or need to go. Law is not so much a damper on freedom as it is a method of making freedom flow smoothly. People have free will and should be able to choose their path, and take responsibility for the consequences of that choice. While circumstances may occasionally force us to take to the swamp, possibly to blaze a new road, by and large we stick to the proven path.

Those who claim to believe in freedom and also determination believe a contradiction. They believe a person should be free, for example to make sexual decisions, but that is a false decision to them, because the decision is all ready made by the natural desires of your body and mind. Though they speak of "personal choice" they really don't believe you have any choice because you are who you are and you are what you are. Their idea of freedom is surrendering to your own bodily instincts. Others who believe that we cannot resist sin take the other route and make it impossible to be tempted (by wrapping their women in bundles of clothing and making it impossible to see a woman) because again they don't believe freedom is possible.

I strongly believe that I have free will and I decide what I am going to do. If a beautiful woman walks by scantily clad, my nature is to gawk and fantasize, but I can and do choose to put my mind in anther direction. I am my body's master, it is not my master. I am free to choose my own path, and because I am moral I choose the moral path. I am responsible for what I do and if I intentionally harm another, it is I and not my upbringing who is responsible. Without choice there is no freedom and without law and/or morality, freedom becomes anarchy.

Sorry about the ramble but this has been on my mind today.

A Local Mass-Murder (That happened many years ago)

I live about half an hour to an about 45 minutes drive from a small Michigan town called Bath. Always struck me as an odd name and the only thing I really knew about it as a teenager is that my local high school basketball team was embarrassed a couple of times by the "Bath Bees" (but then we embarrassed them a couple of times too, but we were a much larger school and should have routinely walked all over them, but any .... )

80 years ago the Bath School system was known for something else. Until the Oklahoma City bombing, it was the site of what had been the largest mass murder in America's history. An angry school board member, mad because of his taxes, got his revenge on the community by blowing up the school and killing 45 students and then courageously doing himself in. In the last few years it has gone from the largest mass killing to the fourth largest. It strikes me as disturbing that 4 of the 5 worst mass killings in this country have been in the last 17 years. And also noteworthy: only one of them involved guns.

Bath is a nice little town and I have been through it a few times. I attended church with a couple of kids that went to the Bath schools and that event in history just doesn't seem to fit with that town. It just doesn't seem real when you look at the memorial, but you know it is.

It happened 80 years ago today.

Michigan Does Not Need Jobs Badly Enough

Actually nobody with more than three functioning brain cells would agree with that but this seems to be the opinion of one William Milliken, possibly the worst RINO in Michigan and certainly one of the worst in America. (William Milliken was Michigan's governor from 1969 to 1982; during his time in office Michigan went from one of the most prosperous states in the union to one of the least. Admittedly it wasn't entirely his fault but he failed to make the changes needed to stop the decline. He also bemoans that conservatives have taken over the GOP and has endorsed the Democratic candidate for every major office for many years, while retaining membership in the GOP.)

Kennecott Minerals Corp. wants to establish a nickel mine in Michigan and Milliken is lobbying against it. He has several valid concerns but he seems to be overlooking the most important concern of all. Michigan needs those jobs and the industrial revenues the mine would create and Michigan needs them badly. Rather than trying to stop the mine (God forbid we should get more of our own nickel here in America rather than export from some 3rd world country!) he should be bringing his concerns up and urging the company to mine in a manner that will prevent what he fears. In others responsible mining rather than "clear the earth" mining.

No. That won't do. The mine must be stopped. The Hell with Michigan's unemployed and underemployed.

One of the worst governors in our state's (and possibly our country's) history has this to say:

If Michigan were to allow this mine to set up shop, we would be carrying out a modern-day equivalent of the biblical story of Esau selling his birthright for a "mess of pottage."

We made great progress in the latter decades of the 20th Century reversing the old mind-set of exploiting our natural resources and cleaning up the mess at a later time.

Unfortunately, the Great Lakes face more threats today than ever before. Let's join all our voices with those of the citizens of the Upper Peninsula who are determined to protect their environment and the Great Lakes. Let's tell the DEQ in no uncertain terms we don't want this mine.

Milliken. Do us all a favor! Shut up! or better yet! Switch parties as you have been endorsing almost exclusively Democrats since the mid-80s.

I'm Going To Make Everyone Mad (heh heh heh)

Patrick over at Born Again Redneck Yogi has a post about pretension and class conceits and I commented about how some people buy only the best books and put them on their shelves to impress people with how well-read they are, and never read them or worse yet, read them because they are expected to and don't enjoy them or really learn anything from them.

To be honest we all do it.

I have a couple of CDs that I bought because everyone is supposed to like them, but I never listen to them because I simply do not like the artists or the groups.

One of them is the Beatles.

Here is my deep, deep, deep secret.

I do not like the Beatles!!!!!

Some of their music is good but they were largely the product of an excellent PR campaign and many of their contemporaries were every bit as talented or even more talented than they were. John Lennon was a hypocrite who called for all property to be redistributed except for his own. George Harrison was totally spaced out. Paul I have never paid attention to. Ringo, I liked him when he struck out on his own and from what I have read of interviews and seen him talking, he is probably the most human of the four; as a man and artist he was too good for the Beatles.

There. I have confessed. Let the flames, death-threats, and "You don't know what you're talking abouts!" begin.

A Militia to be Feared

People mock the Michigan Militia as overweight, middle-aged men with delusions of combat glory and some of them are, but then some of them are as tough as nails, deadly accurate shots, and men to be feared if they weren't the good guys. (Of course there are some crazies too but that's another story.) I know several members of the Michigan Militia and I have absolutely no fear of them because I know what they believe and what they are willing to fight for, and I am not their enemy. (ages range from @35 to @60).

There are, however, militias that are extremely dangerous.

This group for example in upstate New York. A para-military camp and community where non-Muslims are not welcome and the neighbors even fear to look at. There is constant training here in the religion of peace, but my question is why do they need to train. The citizens militias make no secret of their fears and concerns and believe that if they fight it will be to uphold the Constitution of the United States. I do not believe for one second that the Jihadists would be fighting for "truth, justice and the American Way" or the Constitution. It is curious that the elitists of this country make their friends out to be enemies and their enemies out to be friends.

They have their own webpage and it describes an idyllic country village with an Islamic flavor but I fear what may be hiding. Ten years ago I would not have given it a second thought, but the experiences of Dr. Paul Williams when he was investigating, along with threats from Islam make me a little nervous. The non-Muslim neighbors claim that they hear frequent gun-fire and explosions.

I do consider it more than likely that the FBI is watching this very closely and I really hope my fears are groundless.

Solve One Problem by Creating a Bigger One

There is an old proverb about jumping out of the frying pan and landing in the fire. We all do it from time to time and our environmentally conscious "friends" have really done it.

Fluorescent light bulbs are supposed to be a Godsend that would save us countless dollars on energy use and are friendlier to the environment. Or are they?

Break a incandescent light bulb you just clean it up.

Break a fluorescent light bulb and you may have a big problem. The things contain deadly amounts of mercury and you have to go through a carefully explained protocol for cleaning the darned things up. One story said that it could cost $2000 to clean up the mess, Snopes says that the amount is an exaggeration, but the story is basically true.

Hmmm. Maybe we ought to just go back to torches and candles.

Nope. Can't do that. Carbon Monoxide and smoke, not to mention killing animals to get some of the materials for candlemaking.

Maybe we should just stay in the dark.

A Committee of Committees Creating More Committees

As I have said on numerous occasions, regardless of what is or is not happening in the rest of America, Michigan's economy spinning around the drain and headed down. There is no question this is happening and one of the hardest hit areas is Detroit, once one of the great cities of America, but now a microcosm of corruption, inefficiency and quasi-socialism gone to seed.

But never fear.

A blue ribbon committee made of members of other committees have met and drawn up an eleven point road-map for Michigan's glorious future. While it has a couple of good things, largely it's creating more committees.

Let's see.

1. Creating a Mobility Innovation Center to leverage the region's existing automotive technology capabilities. What's left of it perhaps? How are they going to leverage it?

2. Developing an aerotropolis in the area surrounding Detroit Metro and Willow Run airports. It seems that these already exist to some degree. These things will serve people coming to Detroit but will not help if no one's coming.

3. Developing a "Creative Map" of the region's assets in music, film, fashion and the arts. That would be nice for the people already here, but how will that draw new business? People rarely build a factory or research center where they do because there is lovely art museum across the street from them.

4. Establishing a Creative Corridor on Woodward Avenue that acts as a catalyst to attract and retain talent. Ah yes. If you build it they will come. Where have I heard that before?

I could go on and on over all 11 points, and to be sure a couple of them are valid but this is not going to fix Michigan. Bill Ford, chairman of the Ford Motor Company, sits on that committee, and he of all people should know better. He deals daily with business people and he knows exactly why they are not investing in Michigan. It's our work ethic, our over-regulation, and our taxes. A committee is not going to turn this state around. It will require that we create a business environment in which businesses can function and make a profit in a manner competitive with other states and countries.

But it's easier to create committees that meet, talk, plan, and actually do very little.

Hamas Isn't Vicious Enough

Hamas has betrayed Islam, Allah, the Palestinians, the Global Jihad, and the dog next door. Al Qaeda, nice people that they are, has declared that Hamas has completely lost their way because some of them are seeking a non-violent solution or at least a less violent one.

Hamas not violent?!?! Are these people talking about those murderous scum in the West Bank and Gaza Strip?

"Hamas has abandoned jihad for politics. It has betrayed its youths. Its main activity is politics. Since its decision to go down the path of politics, Hamas has begun to descend on a downhill slope. They betrayed the dreams of their young fighters and they stabbed them in the back," al-Libi added.

"All of the pretexts Hamas gives for pondering the political path do not even convince Hamas," Libi said. "They don't believe their own rhetoric. They themselves know they are not pursuing the true path of Islam."

Obviously they are not following true Islam; I mean isn't Islam the "Religion of Peace?" Somehow I do not think that is what they meant.

Libi complained that "al-Qaeda leaders tried to advise Hamas about its policy and told Hamas leaders that they are not going in right direction. But Hamas has been firm in maintaining that its path is different from that of al-Qaeda."

He bitterly lamented that "Hamas told al-Qaeda they don't need al-Qaeda's advice. Some of their most prominent leaders went as far as making public declarations during a recent visit to the atheist capital of Russia, Moscow, distancing themselves from al-Qaeda. They did so openly after the meeting with the murderous corrupt Russian leaders whose crimes are worse than those of Sharon" Libi said, referring to Hamas politburo head Khaled Mashaal's trip to Moscow.

"Is Putin and his corrupt and murderous regime more relevant to Hamas's political equation for Palestine than advice by our great leader Ayman al-Zawahiri?" the al-Qaeda leader asked.

Well at least they have Putin pegged, but he's an ally, of sorts, to other Islamic groups so there is probably more here than they're telling. Putin's "corrupt and murderous regime"?!? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black or perhaps talk about Mao calling Hitler a Mass Murderer. Putin is no saint by any stretch of a sane imagination, but he is not nearly as murderous as these Satan worshipping fiends are.

After pledging that "al-Qaeda will stick to the path of true jihad," al-Libi addressed Hamas' al-Qassam Brigades, saying: "Where are your bombs, where is you fire, which should shine like the sun in the enemy's backyard? Your martyrs used to fight for al-Aqsa, and today you replaced the heavy sword with dialogue. Hamas is a part of the conspiracy against the Palestinians."

"Anyone who takes this path is bound to descend to hell because they are moving away from the true nature of their religion," al-Libi concluded.

Their bombs are going off regularly, sometimes against Israel and other times against other Mohammedans. It may be an ungodly feeling but I would rather they kill each other than us. A house divided is what they are.

Prince Caspian's Cast

Progress seems to be a little slow in the filming of the sequel to The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, but it is coming along. Here is a link to the cast of Prince Caspian. They appear to be going for a Latin look to the Telmarines (the bad guys in Prince Caspian) as most of the actors and actresses portraying Telmarines are Hispanic, Spanish, or Italian. That's ok with me I guess.

This is Ben Barnes who portrays Caspian, the boy prince who along with the Pevensie children and Aslan are the heros of the movie.






I just wish they'd hurry.

Animal Rights, Simple Humanity vs Absurdity

Any decent person will decry unnecessary mistreatment or cruelty toward animals or the mistreatment or neglect of domesticated animals that depend on us. However people of common sense do not oppose killing animals for food or other valid reasons and secondly we must keep an attitude of PEOPLE COME FIRST. (Of course many of the braindeads that make up the animal rights movements will insist differently but their opinion is totally irrelevant to me as is the opinion of those who kill animals for fun or intentional torture them for personal enjoyment. Though they are opposite extremes they are morally equivalent - - One for failing to value legitimate concerns for animal welfare, the other for putting the well-being of animals above people. A Pox on Both of Them.

Now here come a couple of stories about extreme animal rights.

The first is in Austria where there is an attempt to get a chimpanzee declared a person so that it can get help that it needs. I agree that the chimpanzee needs help and morally should get it, but having it declared a person is absurd. There are other (easier) ways to get the truly needed help for this chimp and to have a non-human declared a person is simply going to open a door that we don't want opened. The problem I have with most animal rights activists is not that they value animal life, I do as well, but that they elevate it by bringing down humans, which I refuse to accept.

And then there is another deal in Canada.


The Big Foot is an endangered species and needs to be protected from extinction. When I was 15 I was a believer in the Sasquatch but today I believe it is just local lore. All the proofs I have seen have turned out to be hoaxes and mistakes. If that Canadian MP has proof that Big Foot exists he should bring it forth and that would be adequate to protect the creature. We have more than enough laws protecting creatures that do exist, we don't need to protect something that doesn't exist.

What next? Do we have to save a patch of land for the fairies and goblins? Set aside a giant tract of wilderness for unicorns?

This Is The News???

Being a single man I have to buy my own groceries, which means I stand in Supermarket lines and see things like "Big Foot Predicts . . . " you name it. Tabloids, they range from the usually true but usually pointless (The National Enquirer) to the most absurd stories imaginable, and some not some so imaginable.

I must admit that sometimes my curiosity is piqued, but usually I just shake my head and start unloading the grocery cart.

The American Thinker has an interesting post on what it calls "Freak Porn News" which is irrelevant news that grabs our attention making for an easy sale. It's kind of like movies where they have half a second of breasts or buttocks so that the review can include the word "Nudity" and thus attract gawkers and easily increase revenues.

I think there is another reason for this kind of news. When the news is something that the media big wigs don't want us to know, they release a story that attracts our lower nature and pulls us from the real news. It's easier to say "Look at this freak" than it is to put spin on a story that flies in the face of one's world-view.

I have to admit that I too, from time to time, post "Freak Porn News" but I'm not the media. I usually do it to share a laugh or something like that.

So They Want To Be Citizens

Illegal immigrants are now tying up our streets with protests demanding citizenship.

They want citizenship do they? Let's give it to them.

On our terms.

The French have had a few good ideas, and one them involved troublesome foreigners who wanted to be part of France. In the early 19th century they had an illegal immigration problem and they also had a shortage of soldiers because non-French were not allowed in the French army. In the end they killed two birds with one stone when they created a doable, but difficult path to French citizenship via the French Foreign Legion. Serve in the FFL for ten years and come out a French Citizen.

Maybe we should create an American Immigrants Legion where people who want to live here can enlist for say five years and if they serve honorably and are honorably discharged they will be automatically US Citizens. Of course the enlistment would include intensive training on the English Language, American Civics, the Constitution, US History, and an understanding of American values. And of course it would not be easy either.

Let's send the recruiters for the Immigrants Legion to the border.
